2008 Cons

Dec. 2nd, 2007 | 09:05 am

So I had a wonderful breakfast with [info]ecmyers when I was in NYC, and among many, many other things we talked about WisCon and how the Concourse Hotel's online reservation system should have the initials SUX instead of the Salt Lake City airport, and how time was running out and really, we should get our hotel reservations in ... so, long story short (I know, bus has already left on that, shut up) I got busy this morning and just finished making arrangements not only for WisCon but also for RadCon and Norwescon as well.

(I was half-assed thinking of making my reservation for World Fantasy too, except I have this terrible feeling that by the time October '08 rolls around, the exchange rate will be so bad that paying for a room in Canada will involve rolling a wheelbarrow of American cash across the border.)

Yes, I'm going to be a con-going fool this spring. Which is not much different from just being a normal fool, except that it's more expensive and there tends to be liver damage involved.

So anyway, I have rooms. I am especially excited about having secured a room on the Governor's Club floor at WisCon. Last year, I knew the Governor's Club only as a magical land of booze, sugar, and fairies that I was not allowed to enter. This year I'm crashing the gates. Behold the mighty power of my early-reservation-fu!

Random notes from Norwescon

Apr. 7th, 2007 | 02:47 pm

Tired.

Too much RadCon Toxic Sludge last night. (2 cups of Toxic Sludge=too much). Muppets followed me around much of the evening. Didn't sleep v. well, even though beds at Hilton extravagantly comfortable, like sleeping on cloud.

Had breakfast at the counter at Denny's. Had meat lover's breakfast. V good. I am a meat lover, and I am not ashamed. But I don't like ham. Ham v. bad. Had inspiration of which story I'm going to send in to Tin House. Jotted notes. Had a lovely convo with person sitting next to me at counter.

Went to dealer's room. Bought some garnet earrings. They're v. pretty. Spent too much. Must buy daughter a present.

Attended a fantastic reading by Heather Lindsley. She read from her novel, which should be published immediately if not sooner. Also attended [info]lisamantchev's reading yesterday, and got v. lovely BPAL samples. I smell Lurid today as a result.

Broad Universe reading tonight. Also panel on why horror should be funny.

Trying to remember which mythology contains a god (or gods, or mythological creatures, or something like that) with hundreds of fingers on each hand. I think its Zuni, or one of the Southwest indian tribes. If anyone remembers, please enlighten me.
