2008 Cons

So I had a wonderful breakfast with [info]ecmyers when I was in NYC, and among many, many other things we talked about WisCon and how the Concourse Hotel's online reservation system should have the initials SUX instead of the Salt Lake City airport, and how time was running out and really, we should get our hotel reservations in ... so, long story short (I know, bus has already left on that, shut up) I got busy this morning and just finished making arrangements not only for WisCon but also for RadCon and Norwescon as well.

(I was half-assed thinking of making my reservation for World Fantasy too, except I have this terrible feeling that by the time October '08 rolls around, the exchange rate will be so bad that paying for a room in Canada will involve rolling a wheelbarrow of American cash across the border.)

Yes, I'm going to be a con-going fool this spring. Which is not much different from just being a normal fool, except that it's more expensive and there tends to be liver damage involved.

So anyway, I have rooms. I am especially excited about having secured a room on the Governor's Club floor at WisCon. Last year, I knew the Governor's Club only as a magical land of booze, sugar, and fairies that I was not allowed to enter. This year I'm crashing the gates. Behold the mighty power of my early-reservation-fu!

Yeah, as Madame Sedia points out, it's all about the phone. Their online reservation system is just plain flat busted.

My still ... my phone fu is mighty!!!!

Oh yay! Governor's Club is great because of breakfast -- might seem like a minor thing, but I would never eat breakfast otherwise. So I'll see you there!

I thought free breakfast, booze and desserts seemed worth the extra $20 a night. I can't wait! CU there too.

yeah, a couple of martinis a day and you are in the black. (Really I like it as there is nice hangout space which is just lacking - when WFC made that annex bar that was perfect - I wish wiscon would do that.)

Early-reservation-fu? Kiddo, this is in no way "early" for Wiscon. I'm the same as Jay -- made my reservation way back in July and the Governor's Club was not available then. I had tried repeatedly to reserve via the website and finally called by phone, only to find the Gov Club sold out. I kicked myself for waiting so long, and have also been calling the hotel repeatedly trying to upgrade and failing. I just called again and it was STILL not available.

Did you, perhaps, pay rack rate (about $200)? Gov Club rooms are available at that rate, but it wasn't worth THAT much to me.

Are you sure you actually booked for Wiscon 2008 (May 23-28, 2008)?

Did you maybe book your room for some unusual period, arriving well before the con or during it?

If you actually got a Gov Club room for Wiscon at convention rates during the convention at this late date... you cheated!! I'm telling!!

Sorry. Thought it might be something like that.

Don't cancel that 2009 reservation!

I told Ashley to leave it stand, but I must say, I was a bit annoyed with her. Hopefully she didn't hit the "cancel" key accidentally on purpose.

I'll call Monday and confirm.

YOu got a room in the Governor's Club? Last year, at the end of Wiscon, Governor's Club was all booked up! Or so I heard. You lucky duck!

Yay, Wiscon!!!

Yeah, that's nuts. GC rooms were sold out before the convention ended this year! I mean, we coulda paid rack rate, but it was over $200 bucks a night, and free booze isn't worth *that* much (especially since it's pretty trivial to sneak in to the bar if you have a friend on the inside).
