The voices in my head don't think they're imaginary - March 5th, 2008

Peonies are in my pantheon of favorite garden plants. I love the fragrant blossoms, I love the pretty, long-lasting foliage, I love their generally hardy and forgiving nature ... I love everything about them, with the possible exception of the ants.

But I can deal with the ants. And so today was peony day. I put 5 new peonies in my front planting bed, and moved one peony who was very unhappy in its old location into a bright, new, sunny, well-drained spot. I hope it likes it there. Maybe I'll even get a flower off of it this year!

I also put down some wildflower mix, assessed the state of my strawberries, lavender and jasmine, and started making a list of things to get at the garden store.

I guess it's starting to feel like spring, huh?
