Style! Travel! Writing! Publishing! or: Stuff that's going on

STYLE! I got new glasses. I decided to try Transition lenses, because I'm just geek enough to groove on the idea of my glasses changing colors for me. They're OK, I guess, except I ordered brown lenses and I think they gave me gray. And they don't transition back fast enough. So if I walk off a sunny street into a high-powered business meeting, I have to sit there with cheaters on for 5 minutes? Can't do it. Sunglasses are not acceptable business attire.
I'm not sure whether I'm going to take these back and get regular lenses (I have 30 days to return them), or come up with some kind of workaround. For example, if I'm going in to a meeting, I could wear my regular prescription sunglasses outside and keep the Transitions in a case so they're clear when I put them on inside. But that seems like an awful lot of damn hassle.
The frames are cool, though. So cool that I now feel comfortable making an official style pronouncement: black, chunky, rectangular plastic frames are OUT! The look for today's hip urban professional is techno brushed steel with a faint bronzy-tinge. Like these! (Yes, they're LA Gear. Shut the hell up.)
TRAVEL! I'm going to be at Radcon this weekend. It will be much fun, and I can't wait. And then, next week, I'm doing a whirlwind business trip to NYC. Delightfully, the planets have so aligned that I will be in the city for the monthly KGB reading, where I will get to hear
nballingrud read and I'll get to hang out with cool NY writers like
ecmyers and have Chinese food after. Life is good.
WRITING! I received word from the mighty
velourmane that she'll be taking "The Hotel Astarte" for Pod Castle. With that, I have now placed a story with each division of
sfeley's vast podcasting empire ("Hell Notes" appeared on Escape Pod all the way back in 2005, and Pseudopod is going to do "Votary" at some point.)
PUBLISHING! As usual, there's very cool stuff going on with Diet Soap. The inimitable
douglain got all webby wit' it and posted the first Internet issue. So go read and enjoy. There's a story up there by Portland's own Jeff Selin, Mr. Writer's Dojo. In re: the next print issue, I'm making progress on the layout and hoping to have it done by the end of this month. There will be gorgeousness!
That's all for now. I can catwax my way out of work no longer. Back to the salt mines!
