My Movie Bender: Gothy and Overwrought
Feb. 1st, 2008 | 11:59 pm
Over the past couple of days I've been on this nutty movie-watching bender. And they're all movies (to crib a phrase from
matociquala) most Gothy and Overwrought.
"Age of Innocence"
"Angel Heart"
"From Hell"
"Quills"
I just this minute finished "Quills." I haven't seen it in years; I'm tickled that it's held up as well as it has. Delicious isomorphic perversity. I remember absolutely despising Joaquin Phoenix's performance originally -- but upon rewatching, I find that it was really quite brilliant.
Next on my list:
"Dark City" (but I can't find the DVD, damn it all)
"Dead Man"
"Repo Man"
"The Manchurian Candidate"
So as you can see, the forecast is a little less Gothy, but no less overwrought ...
