What a turnout at the Portland Writer's Dojo Launch Party this past Saturday night! I am absolutely amazed at what organizer and all-around swell-guy Jeff Selin has managed to accomplish in the past 5 months.
The Portland spec-fic community/Diet Soap cabal (specifically
douglain,
deedop,
littlebirdblue,
joshenglish, and Dave Goldman) not only represented, we closed down the party. This was due to a convergence of puzzling factors: first of all, it seemed like all the regular Portland lit'ry types all went home at around 10:30. Second, as a bunch of con veterans, we-all couldn't imagine leaving a party while there was still free food and booze. And there was so much food and booze at this party, we could not eat/drink it all. Yes, you heard it right. This was such a good party that a whole CREW of Portland SF writers could not eat/drink it into submission. Heck, I got sent HOME with food.
That's got to tell you something right there.
It was a great time. The space is hip, the people were cool, the readings were awesome. And because I was driving, I didn't drink, so I wasn't all sick and hungover the next morning. I kinda doubt the same can be said for the people I drove home, though ... ;-)
Portlanders, keep your eyes on the Portland Writer's Dojo ... it's going places.
